Team NAIST-RITS-Panasonic joins the Future Convenience Store Challenge at the World Robot Challenge 2018

Team NAIST-RITS-Panasonic, a team with members from NAIST, Ritsumeikan University and Panasonic Corporation, has been selected to participate in the international robotics contest "Future Convenience Store Challenge" at the World Robot Challenge 2018 (Tokyo Big Sight Oct. 17-21), which is an event part of the World Robot Summit organized by the Japanese government.

In this challenge, 24 teams from universities around the world and numerous global companies will be judged on the performance of their cutting-edge robot hardware and software in the tasks of restock and disposal, customer interaction, and even toilet cleaning.

The contest consists of robots outfitted with various technologies such as object recognition, grasp planning, compliant manipulation, motion planning, task planning, navigation, human-robot interaction and error detection/correction.

The teams' performance will be scored based on the number of products each robot successfully manipulates, the final state of the cleaning, and how friendly and innovative the human-robot interaction is, all within a tight timeframe.
