Once again, the Team NAIST-RITS-Panasonic has been selected to participate in the international robotics contest Future Convenience Store Challenge (FCSC) at the World Robot Summit (WRS) 2020 to be held in Aichi Sky Expo from September 9 to 12. This will be the 3rd edition of the FCSC, and we are defending champions.

In this competition, 21 teams from universities around the world and numerous global companies will gather to demonstrate their robotics solutions for the convenience stores of the future, and will be judged on the performance in the tasks of restock and disposal, restroom cleaning, and customer interaction.

The contest consists of robots outfitted with various technologies such as object recognition, grasp planning, compliant manipulation, motion planning, task planning, navigation, human-robot interaction and error detection/correction.

The teams' performance will be scored based on the number of products each robot successfully manipulates, the final state of the cleaning, and how friendly and innovative the human-robot interaction is, all within a tight time frame.

With members from the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), Ritsumeikan University (RITS), and the Robotics Hub of Panasonic Corporation, we have a solid team to contend for the first place and, as defending champions on the Customer Interaction task (WRS 2018) and on the Restock/Disposal task (WRS 2020 Trials), we are very excited to show our latest technologies!

We wish the team the best luck and we hope they have an excellent perform using their skills, research results and competitive spirit!
